• Notes

  Elizabeth Reed, b Pa, is listed as the mother of "Mrs Jane Strutt" on Jane's death certificate. Mrs Jane Strutt has maiden name Jane Phillips, and was m first to Erhart/Eckart Bentel, 2nd to William Strutt. See also sources and notes for Jane Phillips. There is an Elizabeth Phillips in the 1870 Census of Muddy Creek Twp, Butler Co Pa, who is 72, occupation is "living with family". George McCauly is head of family, his wife Harriet McCauly is 36. Could this Harriet be the "Harriot" from the 1860 census, inferred daugher of Elizabeth and George Philips? Elizabeth's age fits with her approximate birth year of 1798. Harriet's age of 36 in this 1870 census fits with her age of 26 in 1860. I have not been able to find George Philips in the 1870 census in Pennsylvania, so perhaps Elizabeth is a widow by then. Also of interest, Elizabeth's birthplace in 1870 is given as "on Lake Esie", but maybe on Lake Erie?
