Memorial service for Elizabeth Steele “Libby” Lowery, 88, Enid resident, will be 1:30 September 4, 2012, at Garland Road Baptist Church, with the Pastor Roy Wahlgren officiating and Dr. Greg Hook assisting.
Libby was born July 13, 1924, in Neola, Iowa, to Fred and Alice (Denson) Steele and passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2012, in Greenbrier Nursing Home.
She attended Neola schools and graduated from Neola High School. After high school, the family moved to Jackson, Mississippi, where she attended business college. On June 2, 1946, she married Richard W. Lowery in Jackson, where the couple made their home.
Libby was a homemaker; Richard was a 30-year Marine, which kept the family moving all over the country. The couple moved to Enid in 1984 to be closer to their family.
She was a charter member of Garland Road Baptist Church. Libby was a very active volunteer for numerous local charities. She was a doll collector and liked cross-stitching, painting and drawing.
Libby is survived by one daughter, Diane Polk and husband Ed, of Enid; one son, Richard W. Lowery Jr. and wife Gail, of Meridian MS; two grandchildren, Paul Polk of Wichita, KS, and Jennifer Tetley and husband Kyley, of Broken Arrow, OK; one great-grandchild, Landen Tetley; twin sister Margie Mutchler, of Brodenton, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Libby is preceded by her parents, husband Richard in 1999, three brothers and one sister.
Memorials to railroad museum, with Henninger-Hinson acting as custodian of the fund.
