- FIRST OBITUARY APPEARING IN NEOLA GAZETTE-REPORTER 2-7-30
BROTHER DIES.''Mrs. N.E. Hough received a telegram this afternoonadvising
her that her brother, Samuel Steele, had died at his home in Pender,
Nebraska and that the funeral would be held in Neola on Sundayafternoon
at one o'clock. Services will be held at the ME Church.
Mr. Steele is well known here. He is survived by 5 sisters and 4
brothers, Mrs. Nancy Eveline Hough and Jack Steele, Mrs. Emma Ford,San Francisco, Mrs.
C. E.Crandall and John Steele of Washington State, Mrs. C.W. McCrackenof
St. Paul, Nebraska, Mrs. Susie Hiett, Redvale, Colorado, CharlesSteele in

SECOND OBITUARY NEOLA GAZETTE-REPORTER
'Funeral services for Samuel Steele, former Neola resident who passedaway
last Thursday at his home in Pender, Nebraska, were held at the MEChurch
at l PM Saturday afternoon. Services being conducted by ElderWhiting,
LDS Church of Council Bluffs. The remains were laid to rest in theNeola
Cemetary.
Paulbearers: J.R. Cavanaugh, Theodore Hayes, Garrett Schnitker, James
O"Niell, Ed Diggle and James Van Ausdin. In addition to the survivors
listed last week, Mr. Steele left 4 sons: Roy and Wesley of Walthill,
Nebraska, William Steele, Auburn, Nebraska, Harry Steele, Laurel,
Nebraska, a daughter, Mrs. Wm. Smith, Pender, Nebraska and grandson,Henry
Crandall of Omaha, Nebraska.
The funderal was largely attended. Among the relatives and immediate
friends were the families of sons and daughters, John Currie andfamily of
Council Bluffs and Alfred McMullen and family of Crescent and Mr. andMrs.
N.A. Nelson of Boomer.

Jane Isabella Brooks Married Fielding Steele when Samuel was 5 yearsold
Parents came from Northern Ireland (Scotish and Irish ancestry)
Bette remembers grampa Steele and his long white beard, which he lether
comb and sit on his lap.
Death certificate shows date of birth 3/14/1849. (80 years, 10months, 16 days)
Cause of Death - Uremic poisoning (Brights disease)
